The Singapore Shawl Announces a New Concept:

CREATING SOCIAL IMPACT WITH CORPORATE PARTNERS

At SGSS 2011 last year, The Singapore Shawl threw an eco party to launch our sustainable fibre shawls.

At this year’s Singapore Gifts & Stationery Show (SGSS), we will:

1. Initiate our new concept in creating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships for social impact in the global community.
2. Showcase our latest designs including:
   
   Garden City Capes
   Our elegant, unique and classic capes have been attracting attention both locally and internationally. Learn how we have applied our philosophy of responsible fashion in recycling flawed shawls into renewed and redesigned capes.

The round “Infinity” shawl
This innovative creation is an evolution of the conventional shawl, and is a best-seller that won numerous accolades at the recent Singapore Garden Festival where it completely sold out.

The Singapore Shawl continues to raise funds for non-profit organisations and support humanitarian causes. By initiating this new concept with our corporate partners via their own CSR programmes and events, we aim to extend our cause and promote socially-aware business practices.

At SGSS this year, we warmly invite you to meet survivors from the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF), one of our corporate partners.

You can also view a replica of our record-breaking auction piece, created in conjunction with Standard Chartered Bank’s charity event. This piece raised $44,664 towards the prevention of curable blindness in women and children in 20 countries.

We will have on display a collection of our hand-painted “Celebrity” Singaporean hybrid orchids and special designs donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation, the Assisi Hospice, and various medical scholarships/research programmes to raise funds.

Micro in size but macro in outreach, The Singapore Shawl strives to continue being a mantle of blessings for all who need it — whether for elegant fashion, or as a means of livelihood. We want to keep making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in our global community.

Dear friends and fans of The Singapore Shawl, here is a recent article by Kelvin Wee for the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), which is posted on its SIM Members’ Hub.

Few people will give up a successful and lucrative consulting business to start up a social enterprise with the mission of helping the less fortunate as its main mission. Fortunately for Singaporeans struggling to recuperate from retrenchment, Shelley Siu is not like most people.

Wearing her heart on her … shawl … Shelley made “Country, Community and Environment” her mantra and started The Singapore Shawl with the goal of promoting her country and helping her fellow citizens, while not sacrificing the integrity of the environment along the way to success.
